THE INCENDIARY OF INTERIORS BY STEVEN G.
“Human Luxury is the enhancement of the relationship between yourself and your space.
To feel comfort is to be one with your environment.”-Steven G.
ELEVATE: Do you define yourself as an artist or designer?
STEVEN G.: I would say both. To design for the client, you have to have a creative mind, and an artistic, professional talent that fuses their individuality with savoir-faire.
ELEVATE: How did you get your start in the design world?
STEVEN G.: From my early childhood, I always had a passion for art and design. I still get excited after all these years. I worked for a designer whose creativity was contagious and knowledgeable in his craft, and my zeal grew from there.
ELEVATE: What part of designing is authentic to you and how do you define beauty?
STEVEN G.: The old expression,” beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. This holds true to the undertaking of each project. My team and I pride ourselves on the ability to incorporate the clients’ aspirations and style diversity.
ELEVATE: What is the lifestyle of the Interiors by Steven G. consumer?
STEVEN G.: There isn’t a typical lifestyle. We could have a CEO of a Fortune 500 company walk in with shorts and flip-flops, or we could have someone fly in on a private jet in designer apparel from head to toe. The one thing we do know is our client is an educated, world-savvy, and cultured individual who has an eye for distinct taste.
ELEVATE: ART has become the new commodity in the exploration of architectural interior design. What is the relevance of functional design?
STEVEN G.: Form and function are essential to a project, or it doesn’t work. Art to my team and I is a huge part of a concept, yet it’s such a personal part.
ELEVATE: Today, architects and interior designers are becoming the new faces of fashion and lifestyle branding. Is this an inevitable movement?
STEVEN G.: I feel it always has been. You dress in luxury why wouldn’t you want your home, your personal sanctuary to have the same. Now if you mean all labels, well that is the preference of the client. Not all luxury items have to be “designer.”
ELEVATE: What liberates you about design?
STEVEN G.: When a developer or client says give me options or a developer says just
“hit it out of the park,” I feel like a kid in a candy store.
ELEVATE: Color sends a message of energy. It is what attracts and detracts. What is
the one color that is a staple throughout your design process?
STEVEN G.: We don’t have a staple color as we design for the client. I can say, the
majority are neutrals, natural, organic hues, and monochromatic tones.
ELEVATE: Do you work with art curators?
STEVEN G.: We work with many artists. My team and I have designed sculptures
for lobby areas with amazing artists.
ELEVATE: Interiors by Steven G. prides itself on projects that convey a story and
emote an experience. What is the biggest challenge between the creative processes of
design versus the competitive marketing edge of design?
STEVEN G.: If a project is appropriately designed to its region, the more marketable
it becomes. Specific demographic areas call for a particular design that will
complement the surroundings and increase the value. We have designed and furnished
hundreds of unsold property that once the turn-key design was completed, the agent
sold the unit.
ELEVATE: Where do you see contemporary trends going in South Florida under the
Mid-century modern umbrella?
STEVEN G.: As it relates to mid-century modernism, the market calls for accent
pieces in the contemporary setting.
ELEVATE: What makes Italkraft a valued design partner and what collaborative
projects have you done?
STEVEN G.: Italkraft is an invaluable resource for us. Between their impeccable
customer service and meeting deadlines, we collaborate on more projects together than I could list.
